The Dessert Detective started because finding a great dessert spot was oddly hard: word of mouth, buried reviews, or walking past by accident. It lists 5,800+ shops across 270+ towns and cities, from the big dessert restaurants to the small independent bakery at the end of your street that always has a queue.
How shops get listed
We start from public listings, then check and improve each page over time: visits, case files, owners claiming their page and your reviews.
What Verified means
The shop has an approved claim and an active business account: the owner claimed the page and we approved it. It isn’t paid for and doesn’t mean we’ve reviewed the food.

Why we built this
We’re food lovers with a sweet tooth, and we wanted something that felt like discovery. Not only a map of shops, but a way to find out what a place is known for, see what’s near you, try a kind of dessert you’ve never had, or arrive in a new city already knowing where the best cheesecake is.
The other side matters too. There are brilliant independent dessert shops that most people will never hear of: a handmade fudge maker in South Shields, a bean-to-bar chocolatier in Sheffield, a pastel de nata specialist on a small street in Cardiff. They deserve to be found, and we want to help them reach the people who’d love them.
A note on accuracy
Much of the information here has been gathered and processed with the help of AI tools. At this size there is no other practical way to do it. That means not everything will be 100% accurate. Opening hours change, signature items get retired, and shops close, move or reinvent themselves.
We take this seriously. When someone points out that something is wrong, whether a business owner, a customer or anyone else, we act on it. If you spot a mistake, use the contact form or suggest a shop or a correction, and we’ll fix it as quickly as we can.
